I don't want to deprive the American Navy of any credit it might be due
regarding colour studies, but anybody really interested in the subject
might want to have a look at Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's
(German poet, playwright and novelist, researcher into plant
biology and optics, etc) studies on the subject: On the Theory of Colours,
1810.
The Waldorfschoolsystem (see Rudolf Steiner, Anthroposophist) used
Goethe's colour studies to create environments suited to the various age
groups of children, thus each grade, from K to 13, had its classrooms
painted a different
colour. This long predated the Navy studies. Can't remember what colours
my classes were ever. It was just part of one' s natural environment and
not noticed.
