101 clayart mugs... a traveling exhibit

Marshall -

I like this idea. I have a secure exhibit space where we could exhibit
"101 Handmade Mugs On a Wall". Our design/photography professor could
do the photo work and we could host the web site here. After the mugs
are exhibited here they could travel to Maine, NCECA and beyond.

An additional thought--- Have a poster printed with small (2" x 3")
images of the mugs, email addresses and travel schedule. Everyone chips
in a few bucks and once the images are digital for the web, poster
design is easy.

David... Sounds good... the mug exhibit could travel (perhaps even to a
museum in Boston?!) for a period of time... maybe 6 months or more...
Jurying will depend on how much interest there is in this. The mug exhibit
could eventually find its way here for a showing in either the 2nd or 3rd
Annual Clayarters' Gallery where another five or six hundred pottery
customers could view and purchase the mugs on a consignment basis. The
mugs would be accompanied with a card or whatever indicating how customers
could directly contact the individual potters. What do you think?

AmericanStyle magazine might like to sponsor such an exhibit and a book...
let's talk about it at NCECA.

What a great idea for an exhibit. Even the lurkers can participate. Someone
should start gathering the names of those willing to send in a mug for the
exhibit. OR simply list an address to send the mugs to and who will be
responsible for putting the exhibit together.

I especially love the poster idea. There are too few really wonderful
posters featuring clay.

BUT, the mugs should be donated to the exhibit (or someone) and not sent
back, because returning them, especially after so long a time, would be an
unbelievable task that I wouldn't expect anyone to undertake.

Dear Clayarters...

If you are interested in participating in the event then just
e-mail me directly and I will in return send to you a simple application
form via e-mail. David McBeth is currently in touch with the folks at
NCECA in regards to hopefully finding a venue for the exhibit. There is
already some curiosity about the occasion and I think the interest will
continue to grow. Participants will have little to lose and much to gain
from such an exhibit. A "participant friendly" event I would say. This is
a good chance to show off your forms and glazes even if just a mug... Like
a window into the potter's soul you might say. So I say... "think about
it" and let me know if you are interested and I will follow up with an
application form. This is a tentative exhibition but I do think it will
catch on. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Best Wishes... Marshall
