adjudicating

I've been asked to adjudicate a show of art work ( medium has been left
open ) done by grade 7 to 12 students from 6 schools and offer private
critiques to any students that would like them. Awards are to be given
in each grade for 'best' and 'runner-up'.
This is the first time I have done this and I would like some guidance.
I'm thinking along these lines; trust my intuition, education and
experience. Stay away from 'project based' work and look for examples of
well expressed personal statements, originality, imaginitive use of
materials, good observation skills...
In the critiques: emphasize the activity/process, not the end product.
Encourage, encourage, encourage.
I'd appreciate any discussion on this.
TIA, Colleen.
