ageing of clay and vinegar and thorough mixing...

What the vinegar does I don't know. Perhaps a myth that just keeps
growing??? Too much vinegar or ammonia can lower the pH of your claybody
(ammonium hydroxide if added will raise the pH). Sufficiently wetting the
particles seems to be the true factor in making clay more plastic. And if
time is a factor in this then I guess that is what it takes. How about a
little extra time and water in the claymixer? What is a blunger and filter
press???

A blunger is a large mixing tank, the clay is mixed with enough water that
it is very liquid, more so than slip. After mixing the ingrediants for a
specified time the clay is pumped into a filter press. This is a rack of
canvas bags, each bag separated by an iron plate. The clay is pumped into
the bags then the water water is pressed out using hydraulic pressure. What
is left is sheets of processed clay. This clay is removed from the press and
fed into a pug mill.

I don't know if my explanation was clear, i'm sure someone else will be able
to offer a better explanation.
