Lyn,

>> I know this has been addressed before but I can't find my notes and
any help will be appreciated greatly. When you do reduction (local) in an
elec. kiln with Al foil wrapped around the piece and the combustubles-how
high does one fire the kiln? Is it a reu regular ^6 glaze type firing or is
it a lower cone ? <<

Depends on what you're trying to achieve. The aluminum foil won't go much
over 750c where it becomes dry, brittle and flakey and eventually starts to
melt. But then my main objective is to contain and intensify the effects of
the smoke on my terra-sigged pieces and protect my electric.

I think it was Rafael(?) who started using foil above that temperature
on glazed pieces. The melting wasn't a problem because he was trying to get
the smoke effect on parts of the pots.

The best approach is to experiment and see what happens.

Good luck

Russel
