Peter Beasecker and Jack Troy will team-teach an anagama workshop at Juniata
College, Huntingdon, PA May 13 - 29. The course will be inclusive of all
phases inherent to this genre of firing. The first 4 days will be used to make
work, followed by the 2-day loading, 3-4 day firing, and 3-day cooling. Slide
talks, demonstrations, and examination of natural ash glazed pots will inform
the making process. Participants should have at least an intermediate level of
forming skills.
During the 3 days the kiln cools, an optional field trip will be taken to the
Freer Gallery, in Washington, D. C., the Mercer Museum and Tile Works in
Doylestown, PA, and a visit to the Robert Pfannebecker collection of
contemporary ceramics in Lancaster, PA.
The workshop is limited to 12 participants; each of whom will be entitled to
stacking space equivalent to approximately 1/3 of a phone booth.
Participants may bring some bisque-fired work or greenware if they choose.There
will be no cutting or splitting of wood during the workshop.(The wood was cut 2
years ago and will be stacked adjacent to the kiln).
Well-aged stoneware and porcelain clays will be available and are included in
the price of the workshop.
The cost is $780 plus $360 for a dormitory room, meals, and "linen" (cotton,
more likely). The total price is $1040. 3 academic credits from Juniata College
are available for an additional $1100.
The field trip fee is $100 plus meals.
