Since you are talking about suppliers in Atlanta-could you also give
suggestions for galleries, potters or sites to visit in the area. I plan to
visit in the spring as my son is graduating from Emory University in Decatur.
Thanks Connie

Hi Connie,
Congratulations on your son's upcoming graduation. I don't live in
Atlanta anymore, so I'm not as up to date on galleries as someone else
might be. *But* I do have a suggestion....try the Art of Ancient
Americas exhibit at the Carlos Museum At Emory.(if you haven't seen it
already) It's wonderful. Try out the web page:

Enjoy!

Hi Clayarters, I've been a lurker for about six months, and now finally have a
question. Will be in Atlanta Nov l4, Sat. thru Nov. l7, Tues. Any ideas of a
pottery nature? If anyone could direct me to any galleries, exhibits,
workshops, studios etc. that would be great. You can answer on the list or
email me at elrest@aol.com. Thanks in advance, Elise Stiles

Hi Elise, and everyone else who will be in the Atlanta area November 17th or
18th.
Elise's request gives me a great opportunity to let you all know
about the Georgia State University big annual "Pot and Non-Pot Sale." This
is the major fund raising event for our ceramics department and will feature
work by graduate and undergraduate students, alumni and faculty. Come on
over, see the work and talk clay.
The Pot and Non-Pot Sale will be Tuesday, November 17th, and
Wednesday, November 18th, in the lobby of the Urban Life Building, which is
located at the corner of Piedmont Ave. and Decatur Street. We will be there
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. If you need more detailed directions,
please contact me:

If you can, try to get over to Emory University to see the pre-Columbian
collection at the Michael C. Carlos Museum.
Here are some URLs:

I'll be in Atlanta Sept 7 - 10 with a car. Any suggestions on =

Winnie:
Check out the Carlos museum at Emory, especially Art of the Ancient
Americas. My brother-in-law's parents donated their Pre Columbian
collection about ten or so years ago. (the Thibadeau collection, 1300
pieces! Wow!)
Check out the web site:

While you are there, go to the DeKalb Farmers Market. I cannot go home
without visiting there!
Happy Trails,

Winnie, You should check out the High Museum while in Atlanta. Also, if you
are into primitive art, check out the Sam Doyle show. He was a black artist
who painted everyday scenes from St. Helena Island, SC on found tin. He's
one of my favorite artists. Buy the Atlanta paper and look for the listing
as it is in the High Museum's branch museum. Also, lots of cool galleries in
the Buckhead area. Jim

Winnie - this is the weekend for the 32nd annual Yellow Daisy Festival at
Stone Mountain Park, billed as one of the biggest & best craft fairs in the
country (so they said on the ad this AM!). The park admission is $6 for a
car for one day. It is a HUGE crowd - hundreds of vendors. Good stuff,
junky stuff, some Great Stuff. Lots of good food too. I am "near" St. Mt.,
by Atlanta standards - 5 miles due south of the back side of the mountain,
so if you want to stop by, give me a call at 770-482-2649.
It started raining out here last Thursday (after a month of none) and
hasn't quit, so bring an umbrella & mud shoes - it's not supposed to stop
anytime soon! We're still down 12 inches for this year, though!

Atlanta, I'll be set up there with my work. Otherwise you should visit the
Signature shop and also the Virginia-Highlands area to visit galleries. The
High Museum always has great shows going on. Jim
