atlanta groups, clubs, or gurus lookin to allow watching eyes?

Are there any groups, clubs or potters (especially ash glazers) that would
help a newcomer enter the hobby? Any help or references appreciated. I am a
woodworker and have always wanted to venture into another media, pottery
seems to have a sort of zen nature that appeals to me. I have the basics as
a foundation from high school pottery classes, many years ago, so I am not
a complete newbie.
Appreciate any help,
Sam Nickerson

Hi Sam,

Have you tried contacting the Georgia State University Ceramics Dept?
The have a good program (at least they did when I was there way back in
'87 in Sculpture & Ceramics) When I was there the instructors were Don
McCance & Charlie Malin, both were excellent. I'm not sure if they are
still there or not but check it out. Even if you don't want to go to
school they might be able to give you some leads. Callenwald (sp?) also
used to have visiting ceramic artist in to do workshops. Good luck

Kim
