The Studio Potter Network is compliing two new databases concerning
workshops. One will be a listing of people who teach workshops in ceramics,
the other a listing of schools and groups that sponsor ceramics workshops.
The aim of the Workshop Leaders File is to provide a searchable list of
competent and experienced teachers that schools could search by area,
subject, price, etc. So often a school will know they want to offer a
workshop in a particular subject, but not know anyone with the required
expertise. Or they may have enough money to offer a workshop or two, but not
enough to pay air fare, so they need someone relatively local. If you like
to teach workshops, but are not one of the "big names", these people may
never find you.
The Workshop Host Site File will fill the corresponding need. Often a
teacher can offer a break on air fare if several workshops can be arranged at
once. Or you may offer a workshop on a subject that requires some unusual
equipment or facility. This database may help you find that.
At this time there is no charge to be listed in either database, or to access
them (although there isn't really a database yet). At some point, this
service will have to be self-supporting somehow. We'll see how it goes.

To be listed on either database, contact me, Paul Lewing. To get the Host
Site form, send a SASE to 4315 Burke Ave. N, Seattle, WA, 98103. The
Workshop Leader form is on my computer, so I can e-mail or fax it, or you can
send SASE.

These forms were printed in the last issue of the Studio Potter Network
newsletter, and will be available at the SPN booth at NCECA, and were sent
out to SPN member groups for reprinting in group newsletters. We'll get one
to you one way or another.

I'm interested in leaders and hosts. As president of the Clay Connection,
we host workshops several times a year. I'm also interested for our
business, Manassas Clay in the metropolitan Washington DC area.

Thanks.

Fran
