Hi all,
Recently during a thread on "black clay" I suggested the use of Laguna's B-3
Brown. At that time the question arose about the health hazards of manganese
dioxide. As a result, I got an MSDS from my supplier and am reminded to post to
the list by the current discussion on health hazards of manganese.
The MSDS does list manganese dioxode as a hazardous component, but only states
that it may occur in "FRIT and/or as a typical ceramic raw material". There are
no skin absorption hazards listed. The standard "silica boiler plate" is
included with an "avoid fumes when firing" clause.
Assumptions from reading the MSDS would be that B-3 Brown is safe to be handled
like any other clay with a caution about dust and fume inhalation.
