At our studio, we want to change our glazes with barium carb to strontium
carb. Is the substitution 1 to 1. Or is it different?

The ratio that will give you the most similar result is .75 parts
strontium carbonate for each 1.0 part barium carbonate. It works pretty
well in glazes that have less than 30% barium, but over that the results
are'nt as nice. You will find that in matt glazes, the new glaze will not
have quite as bright a color, and will have a smoother surface

When I began doing it, to test Hobart Cowles' turquoise glazes I used 1
for 1. As I use these glazes rarely I did not do more tests when a
friend reported the glazes were not working so good. I THINK it is that
she was using a new/different batch of STRONTIUM --which was very coarse
and she had to grind it. So. No simple answer. Try 1 for 1, adjust at need.
