Greeting everyone,
this is my first post to the group. I've met some of you and feel I
know a little about many of you. I confess I've been a lurcher,
watching on and off for mor than seven months. My wife and myself
own a small potterycalled Red Rock Clay in Kitchener Ontario, Canada.
Enough said for now.
My problem is a blue hazing in a comercial glaze I'm using. The
glaze is an 04 clear glaze made by Gare. This is not the first time
I've encountered the problem, but I'm totally frustrated.
The problem as near as I can figure has something to do with the over
supply of boric oxide. The boron reacts with the oversupply of Iron
in my clay body (red earthenware).
In addition to the problems with the hazing, The glaze dosen't fit.
It crackles like crazy. This doesn't bode well for my fountain bowls.
I've tried other recipes and find the glazes that don't turn blue sit
on the surface like a translucent icing or bubble tiny bubble that
hide the design below.
I'll be happy to switch supplier or mix my own glaze.
Please, please, please help me.
