I was going through some old mail and found this, thought I'd posted it to
the list!!

I spent a week in Boston visiting friends, craft galeries and potters and
found it a terrific place for pottery and crafts in general. Lots of friendly
people willing to talk.

The detail data is being shipped from the states but I can give you the
general stuff now. This is oriented for people who want to look at crafts and
pots and talk to people but they might be able to help you find coops.

Go to any gallery and get the monthly gallery guide, lots of addresses,
what's on and maps.

Newbery street:

There are 4-5 craft galleries here (and lots of other types as well!). I
started at about 10 in the morning and finished at about 6:00.

Newbery street Galleries:

Boston Arts & Crafts Society: been there since the early part of the century,
very friendly people. lots of great pots and other crafts! Very liberal
"touching" policy. ;-)

Hooloomooloo: Lots more pots and crafts.

Avancia: Very friendly, great crafts and pots (check out Jerry Berta's wacked
out ceramic diners!)

Waterstones: Great big bookstore, half way down Newbery.

Johnson's(?) Paint: Great for paint and art supplies, had the syringes
mentioned earlier on Clayart.

There is a great "hole in the wall" (actually cellar) near the bottom of
Newbery street, great pizza and meatball subs.

Cambridge: lots of small galleries around Harvard Square.

Cambridge Artist's Coop Gallery: Very friendly staff (each member has to "do
time"), busy but willing to talk, lot's of great pots, jewlery. Say hi to
Wayne Fuerst (sorry I missed him at NCECA). This guy does everything! Pots,
Paper, has a gallery of his own, etc, etc. Spent a long time talking to Nacy
Gribbins(?), jeweler, as well.

Radclif Pottery: on the campus (in the "plant and maintanance area" past the
"Collesium") across the river. GREAT facility! HUGE and underground. Very
friendly (also very busy) get someone to show you around, not to be missed.

Mobilia: about a 20 minute walk from harvard square on Huron (go there by way
of the "historic district" and the longfellow house, very nice walk!). Very
friendly staff, everything under glass but the staff were more than willing to
"drag stuff out". I went there to see if they had anything left from a
previous exhibition and this wonderful woman (sorry I cant remember her name)
brought all this stuff up from the basement that they had on hold for people!
(from what I could see from the top of the stairs the basement looks like the
cave of Ali Baba!!).

Copely Place:

The Artful Hand: EXCELLENT high end craft gallery, very friendly staff.

I never called ahead to see if anyone had time to talk, I just dropped in but
think it would be better to call ahead if you wanted to spend considerable
time talking with anyone.

This about all I can remember without my notes at 8:00 in the morning while
getting ready to go to work! ;-)
