Re: Brent CX/early 1970's vintage/gear driven
If there is anyone out there who has torn down and reassembled a Brent CX
who is willing to share any tips/procedures for getting the wheel head
rebalanced, please e-mail me privately as I could use some advice.
I stumbled upon one that had been used for a few years by an individual and
then in storage for a great many years after that. It required tearing down
for purposes of checking light rust. Gear box, motor, wheel head, bearings
etc. all in exceptional shape, my only difficulty being fine tuning the
reassembly. I was hoping there was some step by step method of re-aligning
all these various components to restore complete balance to the wheel head.
(I suspect that compaction/slight deterioration of the rubber anti-vibratory
fat washer type things may have got it slightly off balance whilst in
storage.) I reassembled and it's in better balance than when it arrived yet
I suspect it capable of more that that. I've thrown on it for 2 days and it
is acceptable, but if i can make it better I want to. Called Brent to see
if there was any info lurking in their files and though the tech apparently
pestered everyone left in the company who may have ever laid eyes on this
model ... nothing turned up and I remain on my own. If anyone has been
thru this procedure with this particular wheel and has any tips to share I'd
really appreciate it.
