Judy & Howard Brager on wed 10 sep 97

We're going on a trip to B.C. and would like to know if there are any
potters in or near Whistler.
TIA,
Judy (hjbrager@owt.com)

Ilene
My apologies.
I have been meaning to write back since I got your email and things have
been a little hectic - to say the least. (mostly on account of daughter #2
who has been into the emergency , dismissed, back in, admitted,
administered to, discharged, moved apartments -all requiring mother's time
and presence. )
And I have many messages to reply to.

I'm thinking we may not get to see each other!
As I said before, I am at a workshop at MISSA from June 30, to July 11.
If you arrive in Vancouver on the 26th and leave for Whistler on the 27th,
there won't be time for you to get to Victoria that night for sure.
(Victoria is on Vancouver Island, a 90 minute ferry ride each way. The ferry
terminal is 65 minute from Victoria, and I think about the same from
Vancouver. So it isn't a quick type of visit.
And that is going to make things difficult.)
If you decide to come to the island anyway, I can give you studios to visit.
Otherwise, apart from the Granville island people ( accessible via car
there is a bridge from Vancouver)I can't even help!
Hope I do get to see you.

Ilene -

When in Vancouver:

The Gallery of B.C. Ceramics - Granville Island
The Crafthouse of Crafts Association of B.C. - Granville Island.

When on Vancouver Island:

If you are with Ann Semple you will get to see all the "goodies" at the
south end of the Island

If you get to Nanaimo you can see the Tozan 5 chamber noborigama kiln.
In Parksville you will see the Arrowsmith Potters Guild in the old C.P.R.
Station.
In Coombs you will find the Nighthawk Pottery Gallery
In Courtenay you will find the Potters Place.

I think I could go on ad infinitum but enough already.

Have been there twice. The provincial museum, while you are visiting Robin
on the island, and Granville Island in Vancouver. A must for art and craft
people. You can get your portrait painted on the lawn in Stanley Park.
You`ll have a wonderful time. Take a rain jacket.
From Lela who hopes to visit my son who recently moved there to work on
special effects and story board in a science fiction TV production company.

If you are headed to Nanaimo, Gabriola Island is a 20 minute fery ride
from there. There are potters and other artists on Gabriola. Further north
from Nanaimo are many more potters, including on Denman Island, Gordon
Hutchens. There are so many places to choose from on and around Vancouver
Island, that you may want to check out the websites of the islands or
towns you'll be visiting, to help decide what each has to offer.

Gina in South Florida, missing Gabriola and the Islands!
