We are planning a trip to B.C. (have touristed there many times in the last
20 years) and would like to visit some of the islands such as Hornby, Salt
Spring etc. If you are familiar with area and have suggestions, please
respond. Also, if you know of other islands that might yield interesting
pottery, we'd like to know about them. Thank you, Clayarters, for all your
help over the past year. I've learned to respect and feel even more
affection for potters than I expected....and I've always admired you.

The Mojave has its moments but June through August releases very few of them.

Hi Joyce,

There are some terrific 'potter things' to see and do on Vancouver Island
and the Gulf Islands you mentioned:

1 - Tozan kiln firing at the Nanaimo Tozan kiln August 18 til it's done,
usually about a week. This kiln was built under the direction of
Japanese kiln master Yukio Yomomato (apologies if I've spelled his name
incorrectly). If you haven't seen it firing, it's worth a visit. For more
details call Les or Maureen Beardsley at 1-604-245-4867.

2 - Denman Island (on the way to Hornby) you can visit Gordon Hutchen's
studio, among others. They have a studio tour brochure you can pick up
at local info centres.

3 - Chemainus is a fun town to stop in and see, with all its historic
murals (about an hour north of Victoria, on your way to the Tozan, also
close access to the Salt Spring ferry at Crofton) - stop in at The
Pottery Store (owned and operated by the potters). They carry the work
of nine potters from Central Vancouver Island, and can give you
directions to various studios in that area.

4 - Salt Spring Island has a fun Saturday Market in downtown Ganges where
all the local artisans gather with their wares, plus there is a local
studio tour guide available in local establishments.

This should give you a start. Have fun! Maybe we'll even see you at our
studio.
