Saw a teapot over a friend's house this morning, with a light brown/dark
beige glaze with some darker speckles. I was taken by the glaze because of
it's shino-like appearance (although the coloring was pretty uniform and
somewhat transparent) and depth, and it appears to be oxidation. My friend
told me that it came from a traditional English line of pottery and said the
name was Brown Betty. She also told me that this pot was lighter than other
Brown Betty teapots she had seen. I was wondering if anyone knows this line
of pottery and might have a recipe for this glaze?
Thanks,
Jonathan in Yonkers, where it seems that perhaps Spring may be here....
