I would be blessed by any suggestions for the "best" way to clean all the
various brushes used in wax resisting, slip decorating, glaze
application, etc. Share your secrets here!

Arturo,

I use ALOT of wax resisting in my work. I use a liquid wax resist, not
paraffin. I also use bamboo style brushes. I simply run VERY hot tap water
over them in the sink, gently rolling them on the bottom of the sink under
the water... carefully pat them dry with a towel or paper towel, making sure
not to upset the bristles... keeping them to a point. Dry them hanging
pointed down (many brushes come with a loop for this purpose). Presto! Never
had a problem before with this method... :-) Good luck!

One very good thing to do BEFORE using wax resist, is to dip the brush
in dish soap (liquid) and then wipe exess off with a paper towel. This
treats and protects your bristles from the wax. If I am waxing alot, I
will clean the brush off serveral times, retreat with the soap, then go
back to waxing. You will still want to have brushes you use ONLY for
wax resist, as you may not be able to get all the wax out. But this
will make your brushes last alot longer.

Duncan does make a special product for this specific purpose which
contains some turpintine (I think) but COSTS alot more. I have used
both, and will stick with the liquid dish soap.

If you are using water based wax resist......try coating your brushes with
liquid soap before dipping into the wax resist......it facilitates cleaning
later.......works quite well!!

ken,
you may be able to get the brushes clean that way from the wax but have you
been able to check what is going on in your drains lately?Seems llike it
would build up in the drain walls to clog them pretty well..
