My memory of the btu value of natural gas is 1050 to 1100 btu per cubic foot.
A pound of coal is about 14,000 btu. A gallon of oil is about 19,000 btu.
A tire is about 250,000 btu. Old editions of Lange s Handbook of Chemistry,
and similar books, have this kind of information - heating value of wood by
species, -- (the two dashes represent a pause for research) Looking in
Conrad, advanced manual - Natural gas - 1067 btu/cu ft. The other values
are close but he doesn t give a value for tires. Since tires are all oil and
weigh 15 to 20 pounds, the stated value is probably close.
