Dear Marcia. I used to use a formula that had lincoln 60 fireclay in it
to make my saggar fired work and one day I had lots of little craters in
the work after the saggar fire. htese craters had white things in the
bottom. It turned out it was some calcium nodules that got thru the
processing of the Lincoln. I talked to another supplier in the area,
since the guys in the
large city to the north just figured I was another potter complaining
about my clay to cover up for bad technique. The local supplier said to
switch to
IMCO 400 since it was the same deposit and that Industrial Minerals seemed
to be much more consistent with maintaning the equipment. Screens and the
like. I switched and have not had the problem since. I an still using
the same formula. I don't know if it is airfloated or run thru a hammer
mill or what have you, but it has been working well for me. I hope this
helps.
