Hi,
I posted this last month, but just looked it up, and it was a reply to
a post titled "centering". Some of you may have missed it. This is
important enough to post as Carpal Tunnel info.
I am not a doctor and this is not a prescription, but I know of
several people who have used vitamins to overcome those pesty wrist
problems that affect the likes of potters, motorcyclists, waitresses,
typists, etc... . They started taking a high potency multivitamin
which contains at least 50 mg. of B6 and 50 mcg. of B12 with a large
dose of C. The C is apparantly necessary to metabolize the B vitamins
in a way which is relevant to this problem. When I began having wrist
and thumb pain while wedging about ten years ago, I started taking a
HIGH POTENCY multivitamin which includes 100 mg B6 and 100 mcg of B12
with a 300 mg C tablet. It took about two-three weeks and a little let
up in stressful activity, but I have been fine ever since. When I
overdo it, I know it. Just as surely, when I forget to take my vitamins
for a while, I am reminded, sometimes SHARPLY! I try to remember to
take my V's every day like a good boy. Hope you all feel better, soon.
When I have mentioned this to medical doctors, they look at me like I
am selling snake oil. I am not selling a thing (medical), only offering
first hand observation. I would like to hear from anyone who has a
similar experience after a month or so. Pay attention to the B6 and B12
content. Most multivitamins have way less of both.
Best regards and good luck,

Unfortunately, not all people suffering from cts have that alone. While I
take extra vitamins, due to the combined tendonitis, they don't seem to
make any difference.

I had CTS a while back and had surgery on my right hand - before I started
potting - and had no problem healing. But I saw other people have surgery to
no avail. I think many doctors try to treat people for CTS when that's not
really the problem. My doctor did a nerve conductivity study on my arm from
my pinky to my neck (what fun!) to make sure it was CTS and not a different
sort of nerve problem. Turned out I had it in both hands. Fortunately (?) I
broke my left wrist and had it in a cast for 6 weeks. When I got the cast
off, the CTS was gone too!
Before any surgery, you might want to try a chiropractor or an osteopath and
the vitimin therapy. BTW, I talked to my chiropractor about the vitimin
therapy and she recommended it. The B6 evidently reduces the inflammation
which then eases the constriction.
