I'm looking for information regarding ceramic decals. Can ceramic decals
be applied to once fired raw glazed surfaces. I' m just beginning to
research this and would appreciate any information or leads that anyone
might have to offer.
On a seperate issue, I'm interested in finding out about 'ram press'
processes. [smaller size presses in particular] I can be reached through
this e-mail address, or contacted directly;

I do not believe that decals can be applied to =22raw=22 glaze...They are
usually made of china paints, and are applied to a glass surface (glaze)
before being fired. Furthermore, decal firing temperature is cone 018
- 020, and they would, if applied and fired hotter, =22burn out=22.
Hope this helps...

Ceramic decals are applied to raw glaze in fact as an industry practice.
Dinnerwares are once fired with decals in an amazing process. The ware
(plate) is glazed green by spraying, next depending on the process a decal
binder is applied then the decal and then a clear top coat is sprayed over
the decal. This "sandwich" is then once fired.
decals are not only cone 18 - 20, Although this is the temperature range
most of us are use to seeing. Decals like glazes are prepared for a
temperature range that fits the end use manufacturers process. Decals can be
made to fire at cone 9 for a once fire process or for applying to a finished
cone 9 glaze then fired again. The advantage of decals that are fired at the
glaze maturing temperaure is the look. This type of process gives a decal
that is fired into the glaze, not one that sits on top.
