I agree with Steve Mills: "In your shoes I'd get it." wonderful!

It is amazing to me how manufacturers disparage every test that shows health
hazards in a product and demand *many* test to definitively *prove* a
chemical is hazardous. But they will take a single study showing the stuff
is safe and want everyone to jump right on the bandwagon.

I truly hope this stuff is the answer. But I wouldn't snort it until there
is a lot more data.

I am leaving for Santa Fe again today. Friday Night I answered fire with
fire on the fiber debate with Mark, but have not gotten an answer yet. Keep
the issue hot 'til I get back please. I love these kinds of arguments.

Dear Jack,

A couple years ago when I took over the ABBEY POTTERY Studio, I found
myself in need of new ceramic board. I had some leads from the former
potter and soon found some at this address: You might try.....

Fire Brick Supply Co.
1407 Marshall Avenue
St. Paul, Minnesota
55104

Phone 612-646-1311.

Besides getting kaowool in bulk , I believe they will custom cut to size?
or maybe I ordered a larger piece - I think that is what I did and cut the
several sizes I needed for burner dampers/chimney dampers. I think the
commercial or trade name for what you are looking for is refered to as (M
Board) ?
I fire 45 cu. ft gas kiln/reduction/down draught /stoneware & porcealin
clays. Firing to around cone 9 - 10.

So many people at Clayart have been so much help to me I hope I can be of
help to another potter too. Good Luck. Let me know how things work out
for you and if you have any questions feel free to correspond.

There are a number of outlets for fiber board. I've ordered mine in the past
from Mark Ward. He's very good to work with.
Address: Ward Burner Systems, PO Box 333, Dandridge, TN 37725.

Jack
There is a great ceramic fiber tile backing board called Ultraboard. It's
about
1/4 inch thick, quite stiff and very dense. I've used it as a work top on
wedging tables and work tables. It's much like the old asbestos board.
Slightly absorptive, it makes a great wedging surface. For work and wedging
tables I mount it on a 2x12 table top to avoid any chance of flex.

Last contact source I had was

Eternit Inc.
PO box 679
Blandon PA 19510

1-800 233 3155
215 926 0100

They can give you the name of a dealer nearest you....usually a tile shop or
building supply firm

I have bought ceramic fiber board at Cutter. Although Cutter Ceramics
no longer supplies us with pottery stuff, the refractories business
still exists in Waltham, Ma.
