I have had a call from Cherry Creek hoping that I would be willing to
demonstrate during the course of the fair. I need to let her know in afew
days. I'm wondering what people see as the pros and cons of demonstrating
at a fair, especially one that promises to be so busy. She said they
would supply me with extra help in my booth for that time, only an hour.
I thought about time slots and am considering the 10am Sunday slot. This
would be throwing, they'll supply an electric wheel.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A friend of mine has found that at craft/street fairs where she does a
demo, she sells substantially more than when she doesn't. People stop
and linger at her booth longer and many choose to then buy something.
She has had to stock some less expensive items (most of her vases are $75
- $300) and the people watching don't generally want to spend that much,
but they do want something they can take home under $20 - she now sells
quite a bit of the lower price stuff because of this. She has also found
that it is better to throw next to your booth rather than in a separate
area - again, you want people to stop and look more closely at your
booth.

Finally, see if you can negotiate a better deal than simply a free helper
from the show managers. She has received many different deals from free
booth, heavily discounted booth, somewhat discounted booth to free booth
and $100 cash payment for the demo! Ask for a better deal and feel
comfortable negotiating for it. Having a live demo also means money for
the organizers - it's only fair you should share in it!
