Several people have periodically posted some of their wonderful class
plans on this list. I always read admiringly, but never kept the info
because I wasn't teaching. Now, all of a sudden, I'll be teaching a class
at a university level consisting of 8 sessions.
If anyone would like to re post or send me their class ideas I would be
grateful. Of course I will give credit for your ideas to my students- ie
"I got this idea from X who sent it to me on clayart."
I was thinking, roughly, of focusing on developing skill with basic forms-
ie each class focusing on a shape. (throwing practice.) The students have
basically 24 hr access to the studio.
Surface treatment is not my strong point, but I thought I'd review several
techniques. This is not a "for credit" but a class sponsered by our craft
center here at Binghamton University.

I remember when one of our students came to our first session. She told =
us how she stood in front of her cupboards and made a list of all the =
dishes, serving pieces etc. she was going to make in class. My wife and =
I looked at her and smiled.
We were so happy that she did not drop the class after 3 weeks of trying =
to center.
She finally broke thru and did end up with some good forms. She did not =
fill her order for the kitchen however. She did come away with a more =
complete picture of what is really involved with the potters wheel.
She ended up understanding that it is not how much you make but how =
important quality is, and learning how to master the material. Anyone =
can drop clay on the floor and call it Art.
