Hi,
I looking for info on classes/workshops in the Olympia/Tacoma area. I
got involved in ceramics in high school and took it for 3 years in a
city college. This was almost 20 years ago. I always told myself I
would set up my own studio, but other interests kept me from ever
putting it together. Now, at 40, I have the time, space and money.
I'm hoping to find workshops/classes that focus on wheel techniques,
but also covers clay bodies, glazes, firing, etc... any suggestions or
recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Galen

In Olympia there is an art store, Olympia Pottery and Art Supply (OPAS)
which offers pottery classes on an ongoing basis, usually four evenings per
week and a daytime (advanced) class. Most of the sessions are on the wheel,
but there is generally one session that emphasizes handbuilding.
I took classes there for about a year, then felt I was ready to work on my
own for a while. That was two years ago, and I think I'm ready for a
refresher. It's always nice when you work for a while with others having
some of the same problems as you.
Good luck!

Well, the weather is still fair enough to do yard work... Too bad...

Monach Contempory Center for the Arts is is being created south of Olympia
between Rainier and Tenino. They are currently working on building a
pottery studio in an existing 4 car garage. If you wanted some experience
in the creation of a studio you may want to offer yourself on a volunteer
basis. As soon as the studio is complete, there will be classes offered
there as well as residencies. It is in a beautiful rural setting on 76
acres with peekaboo vistas of Mt. Rainier. You can e-mail me if you want
more info.

Hi, Bim,
Could you please send me the address of the store in Olympia? I will have
to be there the last week of October and am wondering if I could work a
class in (advanced)
Thanks
