I think Soldner mixers are great and I use one in my studio. I also
use a nonde-airing pug mill that I constructed myself. Both machines I
could not do with out, but if you are not planing the mix your own clay
body I would not buy and clay mixer. A pug mix is all you really need.
A de-airing would probably be nicer to work with, if you can afford the
increase in cost. I recycle all my scraps with dry clay in the Soldner
mixer. Bag the new clay for storage till I'm ready to use it and then
run it threw the pug mill just before throw with it, no wedging. The pug
mill has save a lot of time and my wrist from wedging.
