can't shut up any longer. When I think of the literally thousands of test
bars of raw materials and finished clays that Liz Willoughby makes for us
and Ron Roy evaluates for us every year,it drives me crazy to be lumped in
with those clay producers who have no testing program.I cannot accept the
notion that you must consider yourself lucky if you happen to get a good
batch of clay. That is nonsense. If you buy commercially produced clay ask
about the testing procedure.Ask to see the lab.Ask to see the clay being
made.Meet the clay mixer.Meet the lab staff.Become knowledgable.Test you
own clay so you really get to know it.

I second that. I'm glad you spoke up Frank.
I would add:
Ask to see the specifications on your clay body, that is, a data sheet
that shows what the physical properties are supposed to be.
Read the code number off your box of clay and ask to see the test
results
on that run and compare with the specifications.
Impossible! I know of one company can give this information to
you via email, fax, phone.

I would like to comment on this. As we all know, even the best supplier =
of anything (that includes we potters as we supply stores) can goof up =
once in a while. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I don't =
judge a company on how it handles sales, I judge a company on how it =
handles problems.

I proudly use Tucker clay bodies. There has been the odd problem over =
the years, and Tuckers has handled all queries with speed and grace. I =
recommend that anyone looking for consistency in their clay, and service =
to boot! look at purchasing from Tuckers.

Merry christmas to all!

Yes, I would also agree. Tuckers is one of the suppliers at the top of many
potters lists for both service and quality.

I am sure many potters in the lower 48 would purchase Frank's products if
the inbound freight were not as prohibitive as it is for some.

Thanks for your comment!

On the topic of clay suppliers, I'd like to put in a
good word for Axner. They're good people with a good
product who stand behind what they sell.

Happy holidays, clay people.
