Good morning Veronica

To date, people have been unable to determine in advance the expansion and
contraction of complex solid materials. To be able to do this would be
terrific, and immensely profitable. The number of industrial and
manufacturing applications which work with problems similar to ours (e.g.,
glaze fit) is extremely widespread - industries like automobile, paint,
cement, glue, construction, road, bridge, rail, airplane, to mention the
obvious. Up to now, actual measurement, or indirect measurement and
inferrring from experience, seem to be the only ways to know this little
tidbit.
