Joyce :

I failed to mention temperature in my last post.

You stated that you fired to cone 10 flat in the last firing where the
runoff occurred. Temperature, along with application, is certainly a
factor. Check your glazes to make sure they are not supposed to mature
at cone 9 or less.

What is most difficult is developing a broad palette of glazes that react
well to the firing cycle you employ (time, temperature, and atmosphere).
What I mean by broad is temperature (06, 03, 7, 8, 11), atmosphere
(oxidation, reduction, vapor) color (oribe green, celadon green, copper
red, copper purple, khaki orange red, temmoku brown black, shino tan
orange, etc.,..) and texture (matt, semi-matt, semi-gloss and gloss).

It's literally taken me years to develop a palette of approximately 40
compatible glazes I use in three classes I teach at two local community
colleges. As Paul Lewing said in an earlier post "Testing, Testing,
Testing" is the key.
