I too would be interested, as I spent about 3 years editing the newsletter
for the Richmond Potters Club, and the need was acute. Fortunately I was
given a scanner - a small hand-held grey-scale one - and that solved the
problem for me. However, hunting out pictures and drawings, scanning them
and (usually) adapting and simplifying them was very time-consuming. In
case I ever get into that sort of thing again, I'll be interested to know
if anyone has any other sources. In the meantime, if Sue or anyone wants
some of the pictures I already have, let me know.

Dover makes a clip art book of potters immages. it is adequate. I
think that ART carries it.

Imageclub (http://www.imageclub.com) from Adobe has excellent clipart in a
very wide variety of genres. Their "worldbeat" collection might be of use,
I'm sure there are others as well.

Be forewarned, their clip art is in Encapsulated Post Script format, and
isn't the easiest thing to use unless you've got a high-end graphics
program like Freehand or Illustrator. Not something you can just drop into
Wordperfect.

I thought I'd try to have some decals made but first I need a source of
clipart. Does anyone have a favorite?

Tamara Petty on sun 6 nov 05

Hi Lynne,

I love the victorian old postcards and a lady on ebay has digitally removed the writing off the postcards so that it's only the picture. She's selling 13,200 images all on one cd for $25.00. I bought the set awhile ago and use it for references to sculpt some of my victorian ladies. It's a very nice set although it does have some duplicates.

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for with regard to "clipart" for having transfers made from. I would love to see some of these images done on a transfer. It would make some of the most beautiful vases even more stunning.

Here is the link on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/13-200-VICTORIAN-VINTAGE-CD-GRAPHICS-PC-IMAGES-PHOTOS_W0QQitemZ6575002591QQcategoryZ41188QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Best of luck on your work...

Where it's not always sunny and the clouds are blowin' in some rain. Yeah! I get to sculpt and I'm off the hook cuz it's raining. No one expects you to "work" in the rain, just play in the clay!

Lynne -
I hope you will take this as positive encouragement. Why use clipart? Why
embellish your ceramic work with someone else's designs? Why not make your
own decals from your own original designs, or use other decorating methods?
I know that artists appropriate images all the time in contemporary art, but
it seems to me that one must have a specific reason for appropriating
particular imagery, rather than the unwillingness to make one's own original
imagery. I encourage you to experiment with brush, underglaze pencil,
sponge stamps, resist techniques, slip and glaze-trailing, etc., and develop
your own original designs. Trust yourself, and you will soon develop a sure
hand, and your own original designs will give you immeasurable satisfaction.
Good luck -
- Vince
