Hi all,

Just thought I should mention there is another new line of interesting
underglazes out there...boy I remember when this kind of news was not so
underwhelming...aand wondering if anybody else is messing with them.

The reason I mention it is because they fill a different niche than
others I know of. They are kind of like rewards in colors and feel but
they are made to be put on after the high bisc right under the glaze. If
put on raw and fired to 04 they make a glaze themselves. But they don't
have any where as much flux as the sunstrokes and can be used on vertical
surfaces.

Eleanora

Oh PS these are Concepts by Duncan. Usual disclaimers.

Hi

Have been working with the Duncan Concepts and Mayco Stroke and Coat lately
and finding them easy and great to work with, have been applying them to
bisque and covering with a clear glaze.

They also work great on top of the glaze...I am firing to cone 6 and most of
colors stay true.

Same disclaimers.

Hi

I'm a REAL amateur/beginner at glazing, but I have been using Duncan
underglazes with great success. They are really easy to apply evenly,
even on vertical surfaces.

I've found that the powder blue on bisque, then firing covered with
normal cobalt glaze (to 960 deg) gives a wonderful deep blue with a
really warm, nearly purple tone!

I also had huge problems getting a deep scarlet red, but found that
using the Duncan dusky pink underglaze on bisque first gave me great
results!

I expect this is old news to most people, but I just had to share!!!
Fiona

I have experimented with "concepts" by Duncan and HATE them. I used them on
the bisque like onestrokes, but they are not for me. They do not react well
with the clear glaze I put over, the colors were harsh, they created
problems in combination with other underglazes - I personally can't figure
out what they could be used for - I already paint on the bisque with no
problem with other underglazes . waste of $ (for me).
