This is in answer to Denise's request. I e-mailed a couple of others
but thought some other lowfirers might be interested in this one. I
would be if I fired ^04. This is from the Glaze Database at Ceramic Web.
If you'd like Database's URL, e-mail and I'll respond.
Cone:04 Color: varies - base glaze
Surface: Semi-Matte or Satin
Firing: Ox or Red
Submitted by Wenzel E. Pitelka to SDSU Ceramic Web Glaze Database
38 Gerstley Borate
10 Lithium Carbonate
05 Nepheline Syenite
05 EPK
42 Silica
Totals: 100
Comments: "This is a nice textural low-fire glaze- fire to ^04 for
semi-matt, 03 for semi-gloss. For opacity add 8% zircopax. Colors:
Green - add 2% chrome oxide and 2% copper carbonate.
Turquoise - 4% copper carbonate and 3% rutile
Blue - 2% cobalt carbonate
Black - 3% cobalt carbonate, 12% RIO
Yellow - 4% rutile
Yellow Brown (especially nice) - 16% RIO
NOTE: (still quoting comments) contains large amounts of gerstley
borate, which is soluble with time. If you don't use up within six
months, may have to toss and mix new. An alternative is to replace all
of the gerstley borate with 3134 frit." COMMENTS ARE ALL QUOTED.

Joyce -
This is a glaze that I submitted, but it is important that it is attributed
to Jaquie Rice at RISDE, and not to me. I have used this glaze extensively,
but credit where credit is due.
It is true that the correct spelling of my first name is "Wenzel",
pronounced "Vencel", but I have no idea how this got on the SDSU database,
or where the "E" initial came from. A mystery.
