Hello All,

PLEASE: I need recipes to test for cone 9/10 Orton (reduction) for a matte
white glaze. Doesn't need to be very white. I'm firing a light stoneware
body. I am running out of scheduled safety time on a large order: I need
these urgently.

I've encountered a strange problem with my white matte glaze. It appears to
both tend to craze yet put the clay under compression. The result on tile
is that the tile 'humps' upwards in the middle. I've tried two different
bodies and firing the tiles upside down. Here's the recipe:

White Matte c9-10 Re
----------------------
Potspar (G-200) 40.0
Dolomite 23.0
Whiting 3.4
EPK 26.3
Silica 8.0
----------------------
total 100.7

Thanks very much for any help,
Eric Lindgren

Eric:

Try the following glaze:

Rhodes 32 Cone 10 reduction

Potash Feldspar 49
Kaolin 21
Dolomite 19
Whiting 4
Tin Oxide 8

Nice white matt glaze. Very dependable.
