cost of digital scales.

Dear Veronica:

The scale I am looking at is expensive - around a thousand dollars. But it
weighs 4000 grams at .1 and 800 grams at .01. So it looks like it would be
good for both the small test batches and larger glaze batches. It's an Ohaus
scale model TS4KD. The other possibility is to buy two scales one with a
larger capacity at .1 and a smaller one at greater accuracy (.01)for the test
batches. Aculab has a 4800 gram capacity scale with .1 for $450 and a
separate 350gram model at .01 for $390. That combination would be a $159
savings over the Ohaus combination model. I haven't decided which way to go
yet.
The other thing I'm wondering is how I fit a five gallon bucket on top of a 6
inch square tray on this scale???? I figure I could put a piece of plywood on
top. I can't figure out why they put a 6" tray for a scale that can weight
4800 grams??? So I need to check out some of the other larger bench top
models which have larger trays. Most of those don't have the accuracy of
these smaller precision balances. They also appear to be quite tall and the
readout is at the upper height which may be a problem for me.
But I'm going to give those web sites one more look. Hopefully I'll make my
decision by the end of the day. It's a pricy little item and I want to make
sure I make the best choice for my needs. I'm open for any and all
suggestions!

Warm regards,
June
