I'm a fledgling potter about to buy my first kiln. The local ceramic
supply sells only Cress kilns. Does anyone care to share info about
reliability and ease of operation, as well as ease of element
replacement? Should I buy locally or should I shop around? Please help
me solve a problem that could be costly if I make a mistake.

Hi,
I have a Cress kiln. It is 18 years old. I bought it used last year and have
fired it almost 40 times. It has the original brick, elements, etc. and works
just fine. I bought a Cress because the one I used at my former school was
ancient and it was the only kiln that was never down for repairs in the four
years that I was there.

Hello,
Does anyone have any specs on Cress Kilns? I recently inherrited one and I
know absolutely nothing about it. It is a small kiln, about 3 1/2 feet or
so high, sith a stand, six-sided, top loading, and has three shelves. It's
previous owner fired porcelain in it, though it has not been used for at
least ten years.
If anyone has any info on these kilns, or has any advice about kilns is long
disuse and a little neglected, please let me know.

Hi "R",
I have a Cress B-23-H C/6 it's 25amps, 240volts - AC with 2 controll
dials one for the top and one for the bottom. It has one 4 1/2" ring on
the top. Mine is 8 sided 17 1/2" across the inside and 23 1/2" deep
inside it too sets on a 5 or 6" stand. If it looks clean inside and not
weathered from any moisture I'd turn the dials on one at atime and wait
to see if the elements get hot, turn it off and go to the next set. If
they all get hot, put a c04 cone in it and fire it. Good luck. Mike
PS make sure all the electrical connections are in good shape. If in
doubt have an electrician check it out for you.

You say your Cress is about 3 1/2 ft high. How wide is it? I have an old
(bought in 1976) small Cress that hasn't been fired for years because it's
just too small. When I used it it was very reliable. I still have the book and
it gives some specs for several models. Mine was a B-23-H and could be fired
to a ^6. If you have a model # I can check the book and see if it's listed.

Hi,
I also have a Cress kiln. I called the company at their 800 number (sorry, I
have misplaced it but the 800 directory should have it). I gave them the
serial number that is on the metal plate on the kiln and they were able to tell
me what month and year that my kiln was manufactured. Very useful information.
They were very helpful.
