Hi,
As promised, a generic copper red recipe, with unity (more or less):
Many thanks to R. Burkett, P. Pinnell, and HyperGlaze.
KNa .45 | Al2O3 .44 | SiO2 4.1
CaO .21 | B2O3 .211|
SrO .35 |
Batch:
12.06 Gerstley Borate
62.23 Custer Spar
12.42 Strontium Carb.
13.3 Flint
Add:
..3- 3.5 CuCO3
1.0 SnO
Flocculate glaze with HCl or your personal poison. Use no clay or bentonite.
V-Gum does weird things, what with the Mg and all. Might be worth a try. :^)
Best results seem to come from early reduction, circa ^010 or before,
as this glaze type melts early (boron, I suppose). Hold a nice reduction all
the way to cone 9, then oxidize to save the world to a good ten. Helps all
glazes.
What else? If you hit it, this glaze can give you a great cranberry red. Wow.
Apply it pretty thick. Hold it in the bucket and say, "Pinnell, Pinnell,
Pinnell," and you'll have a winner!
Hey, Frank Martin, I bet you can help out here! I lost your address in the
hubbub, so email me personally. Sorry to wake you that night. :^0
