I got this message yesterday but wanted to check my strontium glazes before
I answered. I have been working on a series fo glazes for testing
expansion/contraction of clay bodies for about 4 months now and have used
them over that time about 4 times. I wanted to stir them up to see if there
was any problem. There was not

Glaze # 1 had (amoung other things) 7% strontium carb, 6 Ball clay and 2
bentonite. No problem.
Glaze #2 - Strontium Carb 3.5, Ball clay 15, bentonite 1 - no problem.

A more likely culprit would be Neph Sy which releases Na2O into glazes some
times leading to deflocculation of the glaze. If you are not aware this has
happened you might not notice the hard sediment in the bottom of the bucket
and not stire it up properly. I can't think of anything else that could
acount for the change in you glaze

>You need to be aware that glazes mixed with strontium have a limited shelf
>life when in a liquid state. In several weeks the strontium carbonate
>breaks down into SOMETHING ELSE, and the strontium glaze that was once
>beautiful will look like Something Else.
