REGARDING SINK TRAPS:

Just received information from a nice company called : OLSON
LABORATORIES, INC . 4466 Weiller's Way, P.O. Box 171, Port Washington, WI
53074 ph 414 284-9755

Their product is very similar to the clay sink trap I made in the 70s..uses
a 3.5 or 5 gallon bastic bucket as the "trap". Some of you have requested
my article so you could make your own. For those of you would would like
to purchase a unit... read on...

Their product is made to sell to dentists and doctors...to trap "PLASTER",
but would be perfect for a potter's studio. I asked them on the phone if
they had ever advertised to potters and they said they put an add once in
CM in the 1980s and got few inquiries. Now they might get more of a
response.?

Their products range from $46.95 for 3.5 gal and $49.95 for 5 gallon trap
(plus $4.00 shipping and handling/ in continental US, I imagine more
overseas).. Replacement containers are $15.95 or 18.95 plus shipping. They
suggest replacing container every six months in a doctors office. A
potter's Studio......?

They have a nice simple brochure you can request.

Hope this helps.

Happy potting.

We use a plaster trap in the sink at City Arts Pottery, which has about
75 students, not including children, using the studio constantly. I
have worked in that studio for over 2 years now, and the trap bucket has
been changed out once. The thing works great, and I am planning to get
one in my new studio at home as soon as our house is built!

I was just browsing through a Harbor Freight catalog and found a neat
device. It is a new u section that replaces the old u section in a drain
- the lower part of the new u is a plastic door that can be opened for
cleaning. Clever, no?! I think it was about 5 dollars.

These traps are also known as hair traps, and are common equipment in the
places that cut- trim- curl- staighten and otherwise do things with hair.
The one I have has a "comb" strainer that is removeable. They are great,
and really should be in most houses, also.

However. they dont do the job for removal of clay and glaze sediment. A
larger, settling-tank type is needed for that.

Bill, just indoors on Persimmon Hill, after trying to convince the small dog
(Josie) that deer are also permitted here.
