Thanks to all who posted with helpful ideas for my extension rings not
reaching temp (*almost* did). I unloaded the kiln and after the top two
shelves, the rest of the kiln load was beautiful ;) so, not a total loss
at least.

I called Paragon and the very nice, polite woman there diagnosed the
problem after I described the kiln's behavior. She said it sounded like we
somehow "lifted" the neutral wire between kiln and extension, and we needed
to check to make sure the neutral was connected properly. She said that
low and medium wouldn't work if neutral wasn't connected but high would
(which would result in partially melted glazes, which is what happened).
My husband brought home his meter, and tested the switch out, and that is
exactly what is happening (I knew it, because after she said that I
realized that the normal "buzz" you hear when you turn on the switch didn't
happen til "high" on the extension.

So, now, since neutral *is* (and was) connected properly, and we're
thinking it must be a faulty switch (which one person reported happened to
him with his Paragon kiln, thanks Pat!).

Thanks again, all :)

Mishy, making *another* trip to the clay store (to exchange switch)....or
maybe I should send my hubby.....hm.....
