Barbara,
If you really decide to put your wheel in the spare bedroom, the first
thing you should do is either remove the carpet or cover it completely with
thick plastic sheeting which can be mopped, not swept. This is not in
order to protect the carpet, but rather to protect you from the claydust.
There was a long thread on this subject several months ago called 'dust and
death'. If the bedroom does not have easily washable walls, they too can
be covered with plastic sheeting. I have a spare bedroom but I use it for
storing my pots. I really prefer to work comfortably in my cold garage
where I can make a muddy mess and mop it up at will. One can always get
used to working in a cold place and when it gets really bad I wear a padded
ski-suit and lined boots and fill a bucket with hot water for throwing.
Although feasible, carrying clay and buckets of water through the house
does not seem the way to go, especially, if like me, you don't wish to
spend all your time house-cleaning. The dust would certainly find its way
from the bedroom into the rest of the house and vacuuming would only worsen
the problem. If you really can't stand working in a cold garage (I work
quite happily with less than 10 Celsius), try installing a heater.
Joyce, I'm still around!
