Hi David;
You are not really considering gluing your Lockerbie to the wall and then
lying underneath it to kick?! That's going to hurt when it falls off! You
asked if anyone had experience with shear strength/ gravity issues with
different adhesives; I have used lots of stuff over the years, including
cyanoacrylates ("superglues"), none of which I would trust like that. You
mentioned the TV ad showing a guy hanging from a steel beam from his hard
hat using super glue, and yes I'm sure it would work for that. However, in
my opinion, super glues work really well for only four things:
1. Gluing your fingers together.
2. Gluing your fingers together.
3. Gluing your fingers together.
4. Hanging a guy by his hard hat.
If you really want to do this (not just pulling our trunk!?) I would suggest
something using a forklift, a real heavy duty I beam, and a good welder.
By the way, if you turn a Lockerbie on its side the oil drains out of the
bottom bearing and needs to be replaced when its righted; there is a screw at
the bottom of the steel shaft near the concrete flywheel. Remove the screw
and put in about half a can of 3 in 1 or a similar oil. Replace screw and
throw.
