Yaih!? Clayartistas! Saudacoes!
I saw this little item in the paper today and thought I'd pass it along. It
doesn't say who had it printed, but above the article it says "publicidade."
Translated from Portugese --
Empresarios x Imprensa
(Businessmen vs. Press)
One of the high points of the Workshop on the Ceramic Sector, held on the 25th
of last month brought together 30 professionals from the press for a debate at
Club of the 50, in Icara, with the Presidents of the Sindicate (an association
of ceramic manufacturers in the south of Santa Catarina, Brasil). The
participating firms were Eliane, Cecrisa,De Lucca, Moliza, Recel,Solar and
Vectra.
During the 2 hour debate, the journalists had the opportunity to question the
Directors and express doubts about the ceramic sector. The points considered
were: The internal and external market (for tile)., exportation and the future
of the ceramic industry in Brasil.
The participating firms were Eliane, Cecrisa,De Lucca, Moliza, Recel,Solar and
Vectra.
(note: it doesn't say what, if any conclusions were made)
O Congresso
(The Congress)
Already being prepared is the 40th Brasilian Ceramic Congress to be hels 12-16
June 1996 (you bet your heiny I'll be there) and the 1st. International Fair of
Equipment, Products and Ceramic Art, and the 1st Ceramic Congress of Mercosul.
(Mercosul is a South American NAFTA between Brasil, Argentina, Uruguai and
Paraguai -- I'll reserve comment on this initiative.)
The event is to be held at the Sports Gymnasium of the Municipality of Criciuma.
O Congresso 2
More than 80 firms have confirmed they will be participating in Criciuma, and
this is considered to be the largest ceramic industry event in Latin America.
The exhibitors will include firms from throughout Brasil, as well as those from
England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the Mercosul Countries.
O Congresso 3
During the Ceramic Congeress there will also be the 1st Meeting of Art
Technology and Design. This important event has been regionally co-ordinated by
the artist Jussara Guimaraes and the Professora Nidia Goulart. General
co-ordination was done by Nilzette de Mello Rodrigues of the Association of
Brasilian Ceramic Art. Within this meeting there will be presentations of works
that reflect the force of Brasilian ceramics and the development of Brasilian
Design, to show the identity and personality of Brasilian Design to the whole
whole world.
Eliane -- Eliane is the giant of the ceramic firms here.
Eliane and the Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Francisco Dornelles, will be in
Criciuma on the 18th of June, when Eliane will inagurate their new factory which
will make Gres Porcellanato -- hard fired and polished porcelain tile. Eliane is
the only firm to produce this material in Brasil and the factory which cost $15
Million will initially roduce 90,000 M^2/Month. ( this is something
approximating a million ft^2)
Eliane 2
To Facilitate the ideal use of ceramic tile, Eliane will be offering their
catalogue on CD ROM. This is a sophisticated tool that will permit the client to
see specifically see, before application, the color and size of the tileso to
make adjustments as necessary. The largest new idea used in this program is the
ability to adjust the "light", shadows and so forth to better decide what
products to use.
Obs: Portobello has a simpler system on disk.
===========================================
And there you have it, the latest news of the ceramic industry in southern
Brasil as presented by god knows who in Diario Cataranense, the daily organ of
the New World Order, Times/Warner, Disney and Wall Street banking interests,
which brings to you each morning the latest in the skewed perspectives to
inculcate all with the idea that the whole world needs to buy lots of useless
crap to keep the pockets of transnational capital stuffed and neatly
consolidated while calmly corroding culture -- that is, unless one considers
"Bad Boy", Nike brickabrack or elections in inconsequential countries 12,000
miles away to have weightier significance than a berimbau.
I'll be dragging the laptop to the Congress next week and will pass along what I
see. I'll only note that there appears to be a dearth of American firms on the
exhibitor and speakers lists. I think it would be useful to make contact with
the Design community here so that next year perhaps a few of our Clayart
colleagues can strut their stuff, too.
Ta' bom? Estou com fome e quero ir para o Box 32 onde que eles tem cachaca
artesanal e frutos do mar. Depois vou encontrar a Nina, minha namorada. Ela e'
advogada, muito interessant, intelligente e linda demais. Entao, amanha tenho
negocios........
Abracao do amigo com saudades,
