someone of this group can help me by making a good choise???

I want to by an extruder. I do not live in the USA, but my family is there
and can bring it for me this coming 18 days.
So time is short and I cannot look at them by myself.

So I found the northstar extruders. I like the big stainless steel one.

Now I found the Bailey extruder. But with the big nine" I cannot make small
coils. So I can take the drive frame with the 4" and the 9" barrels. .

I want to make small coils and bigger hollow shapes. I like the geometric
and triangles and stars from north star in cheney. But they do not fit the
bailey extruder.

What to do, all are above my budget and the baileys heavey to carry for my
mother and children, but I just want to have one.

Do you have any sugestions to make it easyer to make my choise???

To Hannie Pot,

I have worked a great deal with both the Bailey extruders and have found that
they work quite well. I would recommend that you buy the larger extruder as
you will find this will offer you greater flexiblity for larger hollow forms,
etc. You can always get a local metal or woodworker to fashion die plates
for you, so don't let that influence your decision. You can even have die
plates cut to fit several coils, etc. If price is a consideration, you may
want to consider a less expensive extruder. Truthfully, I haven't noticed a
great deal of difference between the various brands of extruders I have used.
Good luck!

My experience with the 5" Bailey, it would not extrude small coils
(5/16", thats larger than 1/4"). I had a die made with 12 holes, and
got more clay out around the edges of the die than I got out of the
holes in the die. I returned mine and bought one from a local potters
husband. He makes stainless steel 4" extruders with one multiple sized
coil die for $300. He does make custom dies for less than $10. A lot
of local potters own his extruders, and all are very happy with them.
He has also made expansion boxes to make larger hollow forms. He lives
near Grand Rapids Michigan. E-mail me privately if you are interested.
