finishing bottoms

Hi folks:

I also find it unnecessary to form foot rings on all pots. With mugs, I
prefer a flat bottom for stability. The surface is tooled for eveness and
an undercut, followed by compressing and smoothing with a rib which also
leaves a slightly concave centre. The illusion of a foot is created by
using a pencil-like tool to incise a ring towards the outer edge of mug
bottom. This latter step is an extra move that adds to a finished look.
