firebrick: cutting advice needed

updated sun 31 aug 97

Eric Lindgren on mon 4 aug 97

Greetings mass mind,

I used to get APGreen to cut their high heat duty soaps (firebrick) that I
use for posts to get adjustable heights. Now they don't cut any more, and I
have some new PCPC (their high duty name) soaps. I want to cut them into
1.5" lengths. Does anybody have any advice for cutting? Types of blades,
etc?

Thanks,
Eric Lindgren

We have very friendly monument (tombstone) cutters in Billings. Try one
near you.

go to the local rental company and rent a brick saw. This will only
be economical if you ahve a lot of cuts to make. If you only have a
ew to make find a brick layer who will cut them for you.

If you don't have access to a stone cutter then you can buy special blades
for your motorized miter box to cut the bricks yourself... Go to a good
hardware store or Woodworker's Warehouse and tell them what you need...
they have blades for cutting bricks and for cutting metal as well...

Tip... A Bandsaw is a great tool for cutting IFB specials... especially
those under the arch.. You may ruin a blade or three but what the hay....

Do you know any rock-hounds or jewelers who do their own stone work?
They ususally have diamond blade saws and could probably do a few cuts
for a trade, maybe? We've been fortunate in that way.
Also, Suzie Safety Says:"Don't forget the dust mask!"
