I was speaking to a friend, who was telling me about a shop in her area
(Northwestern New Jersey) that will sell clay and then fire whatever is
brought back. She was concerned about how much they'd charge, so I told
her I'd check with you guys to see what is average or get some ball park
figure as to whether she's getting a good deal or not. Thanks for any
info you can give me.

flo, the only experience i have is with the shop i buy my clay from here
in eugene. i don't have a kiln of my own, so for now, they are my only
salvation. they charge me $2 apiece for largish things and $15 a kiln
load (i think they charge $3 each for high fire, don't know how much for
a kiln load of high fire - biskware all gets the same charge). when i
have a bunch of very little things (no bigger than my fist) they come up
with some magic number that sounds reasonable to me. probably based on
how much room they think my stuff will take up in the kiln. it's a skutt
1027.

for what it's worth, joanna

The place I used to take classes charges (gas kiln) length x width x width x .02
includes bisque and glaze firing - in other words you don't measure the pot and
it's finished with glaze firing.
