My experience has been that a range of red/pink/orange/yellow flashed
surfaces can be achieved in soda firing with slips high in kaolin.
Different kaoliins will give you different colours and different glaze
qualities, so with some experimentation you can develop quite a palette.
This colour range is one that soda firing is particularly good at! (Because
of kaolin's low shrinkage rate compared with ball clays, additions of
bentonite are usually needed to make the slip fit the clay body).
