many many thanks to all who helped me solve my problem with my large tiles
cracking in the kiln. I am using highly groged clay, firing to 05, a 12 in
sq clay tile 1" thick, in a hexagon electric kiln that it barely fit into.
As many people suggested the problem seemed to be thermal shock.
Now I set the tile on wire stilts, have the shelf above very close, (I put
a shelf above even if it is in the top of the kiln), and fire VERY slowly
and the problem seems to be solved.
