freezing propane bottles -- relax!

It's absolutely a-ok to warm frosty propane bottles using warm tap water.
They're built to take 150'F temperatures while full of propane.

The reason the propane flow seems to slow is that the heat transfer through
the propane bottle is limited by the surface area, outside temperature, and
the heat transfer coefficient between the air and the outside surface of
the bottle. Using warm water increases the outside temperature and also
increases the heat transfer coefficient about 100 times compared with air.

The evaporation rate of liquid propane depends entirely on the amount of
heat that you can transfer from outside the bottle to the liquid inside.

(This is really good information, straight from an engineer who is
professionally licensed in Alaska, Washington, and California.)
